Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir

Bio

Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir was born on August 17, 1925 at Krókur in Skagahreppur in Húnavatnssýsla East. She did odd jobs as a hired hand in the area until around twenty when she moved to the town Sandgerði in South Iceland where she lived from then on, first as a housekeeper but then writer and homemaker. 

Her first novel, Bylgjur (Waves), appeared as a serial in Nýtt kvennablað (The New Woman's Magazine) in 1954, and was published as a book in 1961. The novel Sýslumannssonurinn (The Son of the Sheriff) is Ingibjörg's first printed novel, also appearing serially in the magazine Heima er bezt (Home Sweet Home).

Ingibjörg published close to 30 novels in her lifetime, and a book of poetry, Hugsað heim (Thinking About Home) in 1962. She also continued writing serial stories for Heima er bezt.

Ingibjörg Sigurðardóttir passed away on July 17, 2009.
