Höfði - Einar Benediktsson

Please enjoy a reading of Einar Benediktsson’s poem, “Surf”.

Einar Benediktsson (1864-1940) is one of Iceland’s most revered poets. He was an influential figure in the independence movement of Iceland, a lawyer and a highly ambitious entrepeneur. His poetry has been classified as neo-romantic, collected in five books during his lifetime. A statue of Einar Benediktsson, by sculptor Ásmundur Sveinsson, was erected in Reykjavík in  October 31, 1964. It was originally placed in Klambratún Park, but moved here to Höfði House in 2015. Einar Benediktsson lived in Höfði with his family from 1914 - 1917.
